Thermoplastic material is homogenized before extrusion through a die orifice 1 by passage through a narrow gap 5 between the flat-end face of the head 3 of the extrusion screw 2 and the inner flat face of the die head 4. In alternative extruder constructions a number of extruder screws, which may have heads of circular or oval cross-section, are provided for feeding material to a single die outlet slot or a row of circular die apertures.
