A rotisserie spit having a cantilevered motor-driven (14) rotating spit rod (12) for holding food above a heat source is disclosed. A carrier bracket (16) for supporting the spit rod is removably mounted to an upright post (18). The carrier bracket has two stationary bearing surfaces (34, 36) that slidingly contact axially spaced portions of the rod to support it in a cantilever fashion. The bracket can pivot to allow the spit rod to swing about the axis of the post so that the food can be moved from above the heat source.
