PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a readout operation time by reducing retry operation performed in a readout operation of a magnetic stripe. SOLUTION: A medium stop position indicated by a carrying distance from the detection of one end of a medium by a medium stop positioning sensor is stored beforehand in a storage part 5. When a magnetic stripe reading/writing part 4 detects an abnormality of reading of data, a medium is carried to a medium stop position read out from the storage part 5 by a medium carrying part 2, a magnetic head drive part 3 performs the retry operation to move a magnetic head and read out a magnetic stripe.
