PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a technique of industrially and stably producing a polyalkylene carbonate by making it possible to handle the polymer during production without raising any environmental and hygienic problems in a reaction of carbon dioxide with an epoxide. SOLUTION: A polyalkylene carbonate production method having no environmental and hygienic problems has been found out by polymerizing carbon dioxide and an epoxide in the presence of a hydroxyl- or carboxyl-containing organic compound or water in a solvent containing a carbonate solvent or an ether solvent capable of dissolving the polyalkylene carbonate.
