PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide very excellent and well balanced fiber for artificial hair having natural luster and touch feeling similar to those of human hair, excellent in combing property, curling property and also fabric property such as strength and elongation, and favorably preventing the artificial hair after processed for sale from falling off. SOLUTION: The fiber for artificial hair has 10-100 dtex monofilament fineness. A modified cross-sectional surface having an additional shape at the outer peripheral part of a circular base shape having a diameter D, or an elliptic reference shape having a long diameter Da and a short diameter Db and satisfying the following equation: D=(Da+Db)/2, has a distance L from a point on the outer periphery of the reference shape to a remotest point on the outer periphery of the additional shape satisfying the following equation: L≤0.414D.
