PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary encoder for detecting with high accuracy the rotation information of a rotator. SOLUTION: In this rotary encoder 100, since a periodic signal used for modulation in a probe part 14<SB>1</SB>and a periodical signal used for modulation in a probe part 14<SB>2</SB>are the same signal emitted from an oscillation circuit 12, each detection timing of signals from each probe part 14<SB>1</SB>, 14<SB>2</SB>can always be allowed to coincide with each other. As a result, since the rotation amount of a disk 10 detected by detection devices 16<SB>1</SB>, 16<SB>2</SB>are detected with the same timing, the rotation information of the rotator can be detected with high accuracy, based on the rotation amount of the disk 10 detected, simultaneously.
