PROCESSES FOR PRODUCTION OF ISOBUTENE AND TERTIARY BUTANOL

Disclosed is a process for production of isobutene which can produce isobutene from TBA with high yield and high selectivity in a stable manner for a prolonged period. Also disclosed is a process for production of TBA, in which high reactivity can be maintained for a prolonged period in a stable manner to ensure a prolonged continuous operation, thereby improving the yield of TBA. In the process for production of isobutene, an alumina catalyst which has an Na content of 0.6% by weight or less in terms of Na₂O or 0.4% by weight or less in terms of NaO₂ and has a specific surface area of 200 to 600 m₂/g is used, and the temperature for the dehydration/decomposition employed is 200 to 450°C.
