PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve performance of a scroll fluid machine by appropriately positioning a back up material in a fitting groove and applying appropriate repulsion force on a seal material during use. SOLUTION: The back up material 6 made of air tight material having appropriate elasticity and provided with a horizontal projection strip 8 projecting in both sides and pressing both side surfaces of the fitting groove 4 when pressing force acts in a depth direction of the fitting groove 4 at appropriate section on the both side surfaces is fitted in a lower part of the fitting groove 4 provided on an end plate 2 or a tip surface of the lap 3, and a seal material 7 sliding on the end plate 2 of a mating scroll is put on the top of an upper surface of the back up material 6.
