PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce afterimage when an IP (Interlace-Progressive) conversion is used for display in a hold response type display. SOLUTION: In the display device, a plurality of drain electrode lines and a plurality of gate electrode lines are arranged in matrix, a pixel area is formed by being surrounded with adjacent two drain electrode lines and adjacent two gate electrode lines, each of pixel area has a TFT element, and a display area is set as the set of the pixel areas. In the display device, the drain electrode line and a pixel electrode are electrically connected to a drain electrode and a source electrode of the TFT respectively. Even or odd cycles of a positive polarity signal, and the same cycles of a negative polarity signal as the positive polarity signal are repeatedly applied, and either or both of the negative or the positive polarity signal are periodically changed to the odd cycles when even cycles of the positive polarity signal are applied, and to the even cycles when odd cycles of the negative polarity signal are applied.
