<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is high in heat stability and superior in safety even when a potential of a positive electrode becomes 4.5 V (vs. Li/Li<SP>+</SP>) or more in the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using a lithium-transition metal complex oxide containing Li, Ni, and Mn and having a layered structure as the positive electrode. <P>SOLUTION: In the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is provided with the positive electrode and a negative electrode using a material capable of storing and releasing lithium ions, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, and in which an opposed charge capacity ratio of the positive electrode and the negative electrode becomes 1.0 to 1.15 when they are charged until the potential of the positive electrode reaches 4.5 V (vs. Li/Li<SP>+</SP>), the main material of a positive electrode active material is the lithium-transition metal complex oxide expressed by a chemical formula: Li<SB>a</SB>Mn<SB>s</SB>Ni<SB>t</SB>Co<SB>u</SB>Mo<SB>v</SB>O<SB>2</SB>. Here, it satisfies 0≤a≤1.2, s+t+u=1.0<s≤0.5, 0.45≤s/(s+t)≤0.55, 0.45≤t/(s+t)≤0.55, u≥0, and 0.001≤v≤0.01. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
