<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side airbag device capable of easily and adequately controlling the pressure in a plurality of chambers formed in an airbag. <P>SOLUTION: The side airbag device has an inflator 12, an airbag 13, and a fastening band 46. The airbag 13 comprises right and left base cloths 31a, 31b, a tether 41 and an annular joining part 39 for joining the base cloths 31a, 31b with each other, and an opening hole 37b opened in the base cloths 31a, 31b in an area surrounded by the annular joining part 39. The tether 41 demarcates the airbag 13 into upper and lower chambers 42, 43. The annular joining part 39 consists of a seam arranged across the tether 41. The inflator 12 has an upper gas ejection unit 21, a lower gas ejection unit 22 and an inflator fixing unit 23.
