PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring losses of waveguides with the waveguides bent and that is capable of implementing bending angles of four right angles by a simple method, improving the accuracy in measuring waveguide propagation losses, and facilitating the installation of light-receiving and emitting devices required for measurement. SOLUTION: Three cylindrical gauge heads 5a-5c are arranged in parallel, in such a way that their center shafts are arranged in parallel on the same plane. A flexible object to be measured 4, having an optical waveguide 3 provided with a cladding layer 1 and a core layer 2, are passed between the cylindrical gauge heads 5a-5c. The object to be measured 4 is extended through the intervals between the cylindrical gauge heads 5a-5c between each two adjacent ones of the cylindrical gauge heads 5a-5c, in such a way that the object to be measured 4 is brought into contact with half of the circumference of the center cylindrical gauge heads 5a and each quarter of the circumference of the cylindrical gauge heads 5b and 5c on both sides to set the object to be measured 4 in the three cylindrical gauge heads 5a-5c. A light is passed through the optical waveguide 3 of the object to be measured 4 in this state, to measure the optical transmission losses. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
