The method involves producing a reference bobbin, and comparing an edge-actual form of the reference bobbin with a target edge-reference form of an ideal bobbin (23). Variations of the edge geometry are determined and are specified as a mathematical function depending on the bobbin diameter. A thread guider is controlled in such a manner that a traversing stroke takes place in a bobbin (11) to be manufactured while winding, by using the function in the inverse form to the determined variations of the actual form from the reference form.
