PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image managing device which is capable of retrieving the reduced image of a recently inputted image at high speed through a low consumption current. SOLUTION: A digital camera serves also as the image managing device that stores an inputted main image and a reduced image that is corresponding to the main image and used for reproduction. The image managing device is equipped with an HDD 10 that records a main image when the main image is inputted; a first database information forming means for specifying a group that the reduced image belongs when the main image is recorded in the HDD 10; a nonvolatile memory 5 that the reduced images and the first database information are recorded; and a means for transferring (elimination after copy) the first database information and the reduced images that are recorded in the nonvolatile memory 5 to the HDD 10, when the residual capacity of the nonvolatile memory 5 or the number of the recorded files meets the prescribed requirements.
