PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing interference fringes from occurring on a display surface and suppressing the deterioration of brightness, to provide a method of manufacturing the liquid crystal display device, and to a method of designing the liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is constituted as follow. A surface light source device 30 facing a polarizing plate PL1 disposed on the outer surface of a pair of substrates 12, 14 is provided with: a light guide body 36 comprising a light incident surface 36A facing a cold-cathode tube 34, a light emission surface 36B for emitting light made incident from the light incident surface 36A and an opposite surface 36C opposite to the light emission surface 36B; and a prism sheet 39A disposed between the polarizing plate PL1 and the light guide body 36, wherein the light guide body 36 has a prism PR1 on either one of the light emission surface 36B and the opposite surface 36C, the prism sheet 39A has a prism PR2 extended while forming an angle of 82 to 86°for the prism PR1 of the light guide body 36 and an angleθformed by a polarization axis AX1 of the polarizing plate PL1 and a polarization axis AX2 of the prism sheet 39A falls into the range of 0 to 20°.
