PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ridge direction extracting device for accurately extracting a ridge direction even in a direction unstable region. SOLUTION: In a ridge direction extracting device 10, a zone direction extracting means 23 calculates the ridge direction and direction reliability of each zone, and a high reliability zone region determining means 24 determines a high reliable zone region, and a direction expectation level calculating means 25 selects a reference zone, and calculates the direction expectation level of the ridge direction based on the ridge direction and distance of the reference zone, and a propagation zone direction extracting means 26 recalculates the direction reliability calculated by the zone direction extracting means 23 based on the direction expectation level of each propagation zone, and extracts the ridge direction of the propagation candidate zone, based on the recalculated direction reliability.
