<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for preventing the damage of an image forming apparatus and accurately performing resist control in the image forming apparatus equipped with an image carrier constituted so that a toner image can be carried on its surface and a cleaning means removing residual toner on the surface of the image carrier while abutting on the image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: When detecting a new transfer unit including an intermediate transfer belt and a cleaner abutting on the intermediate transfer belt, the initializing operation of the transfer unit is performed. When the image forming apparatus is used as a color image forming apparatus, toner accumulation processing (step S204) accumulating prescribed amount of toner at an abutting part between the intermediate transfer belt and the cleaner is performed. The rotation cycle of the intermediate transfer belt is measured while the toner is accumulated (step S205), and resist controlled variable is set based on the result of the measurement. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
