Circuit arrangement has a first converter stage (2), containing a PWM generator (3) that controls a switching stage (1) and low pass filter that is connected downstream of the switching stage. Additional converter stages (4) have one or more additional switching stages (5, 5'). Additional switching stage or stages is or are controlled by one or more additional PWM generators (6, 6') and a low pass filter is connected downstream of each switching stage. An independent claim is also included for application of the converter in a control unit for motor vehicles.
