An apparatus and a method for measuring length of metal strips are provided to minimize errors due to slip of the metal strips or self errors of a measuring device by measuring a rear portion of the metal strips with an image acquisition unit. An apparatus for measuring length of a metal strip(30) includes a plurality of metal sensing units(31~35), an image acquisition unit(39), a first calculation unit(40), a second calculation unit(41), a length calculation unit(42), and a control unit(43). The metal sensing units are installed by being separated at a predetermined distance and output on/off signals according to a sensing state of the strip. A driving motor(37) drives a roller(36) to move the metal strip. The driving motor controls the operation by a motor control unit(38). The image acquisition unit is placed between the first metal sensing unit and the second metal unit to acquire an image of the metal strip at a region between the first metal sensing unit and the second metal sensing unit.
