A pointing device provided with a sensor substrate 1 having a flat board form, a stick member 22 vertically provided on the sensor substrate 1 , and at least a pair of strain sensors 8 a- 8 d arranged in symmetrical relation to each other with respect to the stick member 22 . The sensor substrate 1 is formed with four slits 3 b which allow deformation of the strain sensors 8 a- 8 d during operation of the stick member 22 . The slits 3 b each have an L-shape and jointly form a cross-shaped intersecting area 7 in which the strain sensors 8 a- 8 d are arranged.
