PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical component by which the abrasion resistance of an optical component such as a plastic lens can be improved, and to provide an optical component produced by the production method.

SOLUTION: A hard coat layer is formed by a hard coat layer forming process including: an application step of applying a hard coat liquid on a plastic substrate; a temporary firing step of preliminarily curing the hard coat liquid by a hydrolysis reaction; a moisturizing step of moisturizing the preliminarily cured hard coat layer; and a conclusive firing step of concluding the curing of the hard coat liquid by a further hydrolysis reaction.
