<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat light source of improved color light unevenness characteristics and an LCD backlight unit comprising it. <P>SOLUTION: The flat light source has a plurality of R, G, and B LED elements arranged in row and column. It includes a first LED array in which adjoining two green LEDs, one red LED, and blue LED adjoining them are arranged sequentially, and a second LED array in which adjoining two green LEDs, adjoining one blue LED and red LED are sequentially arranged. The first and second LED arrays are arranged in arbitrary row or column. The first and second LED arrays have red or blue LED that encloses two green LEDs.
