PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction damper for easily obtaining large frictional force at low cost. SOLUTION: The friction damper 1 is structured to be assembled by clamping a middle plate 3 and a connecting plate 5 by an outer plate 7a and an outer plate 7b and pressing them by a bolt 13 and a nut 15 through an elastic body 11. Both faces of the middle plate 3 are provided with triangular groove parts 23a, 23b, 25a, 25b. One face of the outer plate 7a is provided with triangular projecting parts 21a, 21b, and one face of the outer plate 7b is provided with triangular projecting parts 27a, 27b. When the middle plate 3 moves between the outer plate 7a and the outer plate 7b, frictional force is generated between the projecting parts 21a, 21b and the groove parts 23a, 23b and between the projecting parts 27a, 27b and the groove parts 25a, 25b, but at this time, an apparent friction coefficient generated between the middle plate 3 and the outer plates 7a, 7b can be enlarged by inclining sliding faces at which the respective groove parts and projecting parts come in sliding contact.
