The divider for stacks of paper (1) has a sheet counter and sensors (12 - 15) which adjust the position of the stack on a lift. Portions of the stack are separated off by a roller (10) and held between this and a vertically adjustable clamp (11) for transfer to a vibrator. An independent claim is included for a method for dividing stacks of paper using the machine.
