PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of high temperature heating involved in the thermal cyclization method and the problems of complicated and long treatment steps involved in conventional chemical cyclization, and to provide an efficient method for producing a polyimide, in which the polyimide is produced without using a carboxylic acid anhydride such as acetic anhydride in a substantially neutral condition at room temperature, without passing through a polyisoimide intermediate and producing only an easily removable byproduct, in a method for producing a polyimide from a polyamic acid. SOLUTION: The method for producing an aromatic polyimide comprises cyclizing an aromatic polyamic acid by reacting it with a 1,1'-carbonyl diimidazole compound. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
