Motor vehicle battery check, e.g. for a hybrid vehicle, uses a mathematical model to evaluate measured voltage with other parameters to determine the charging and ageing conditions

A mathematical model (6) is used to evaluate a battery condition value e.g. charge condition (SOC), power (SOH), internal resistance (Ri), voltage drop at main capacity (Uc) and especially the state of charge or ageing of a battery (1). The voltage (U) and battery current are measured at a battery cell group (1a-1n) for evaluation by the model to give start values for computation of the battery future life and performance.
