A virtual peripheral device interface and protocol are described that may be used in redirecting peripheral device communication to a remote networked device. In on embodiment, the invention includes a bus adapter to connect to a bus of a managed system, a set of peripheral device bus host controller registers to provide data and commands to the bus adapter, and a network adapter to communicate data and commands between the set of host controller registers and a remote networked device.
