PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body structure capable of efficiently absorbing shocks at the time of collision at a front portion of a vehicle. SOLUTION: A lower cross member 2 is installed below a side member 1, and a wire 3 for transmitting tension not a compression force is installed between the tip of the side member 1 and the lower cross member 2. At the time of colliding with a low-height vehicle, a frame of the other vehicle comes into contact with the wire 3, and the tension of the wire 3 deforms the tip side of the side member 1 downward, so as to absorb shocks. At the time of colliding with the vehicle of the same height, the side member 1 is compressed and deformed, but the compression force is not transmitted to the lower cross member 2 via the wire 3, so as to prevent backward deformation of the side member 1.
