The invention relates to a method for treating a continuous web of paper, cardboard or of another fibrous substance during the production and/or conversion thereof, during which a liquid to pasty application medium (2), particularly an aqueous pigment suspension, is contactlessly applied by an application mechanism (8) and without an excess of application medium (2) to the fibrous substance web (1), and the fresh applied layer (3a) is subsequently leveled or smoothed. The invention provides that the leveling or smoothing is carried out before an immobilization point of the (P) application medium (2) on the fibrous substance web (1) has been reached by a leveling or smoothing element (5). The smoothing or the leveling ensues in the range of between 0.04 to 1.0 s after the application, at a web speed ranging from 500 to 2000 m/min and at a distance (b) between the application mechanism (8) and the leveling or smoothing element (5) or applied line and beginning leveling or smoothing of < 1.5 to < 8m as well as an obtained solids content of the application medium (2) between 75 and 90 %. |
