A method and an apparatus for transmitting/receiving data by providing down-compatibility in a high speed wireless network are provided to enhance efficiency by transmitting data, having short length, through a low transmission method. A wireless network is connected(S301). The first data transmitted by the first station existing in the network according to the first protocol is received(S302). It is checked whether the first data has been transmitted by a channel bonding method(S310). When the first data has been transmitted by the channel bonding method, the second data according to the second protocol is transmitted to the first station(S320). When the first data has been transmitted by MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output), the second data according to the second protocol is transmitted to a channel through which the first data has been received(S330).
