PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus and a recording control method which can maintain high throughput and high recording quality while executing recording which involves a recovery operation of a recording head in a multipass recording method. SOLUTION: In multipass recording, image recording is accomplished by causing a recording head having plural ink discharge outlets to scan the same region on a recording medium a plurality of times. When the multipass recording is performed, the recording operation by the recording head is temporarily stopped to perform a recovery operation for each scan record of the multipass recording. The part where recording has not been completed in one page of the recording medium is compared with a predetermined threshold value.
