PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording medium capable of expanding a spare area in accordance with the frequency of the occurrence of a defective sector. SOLUTION: The information recording medium includes: a first spare area 102 including a spare sector in substitution for a defective sector; a defect management information area 101 for managing the substitution of the defective sector by the spare sector; and a volume space 100a in which user data can be recorded. The volume space 100a is configured so that a second spare area 108 including a spare sector in substitution for a defective sector can be additionally allocated.
