PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and a control method thereof for extracting optional information expressed in a camouflage pattern from read image data by reading a forgery suppression ground pattern comprising camouflage patterns for expressing the optional information. SOLUTION: A digital information extract apparatus includes: a scan section 3201 for reading the forgery suppression ground pattern; a low pass filter section 3202 for applying filter processing for eliminating a particular frequency component to the read image data; a binarization section 3203 for applying binary processing to the read image data; an inverting section 3204 for inverting image information of binarized image data; a respective bit expression pattern extract section 3205 for extracting a prescribed region from the inverted image data; a recognition section 3206 for comparing the camouflage pattern included in the extracted region with a prescribed pattern to recognize information embedded in the camouflage pattern; and an error correction decoding section 3207 for decoding the recognized information.
