<p>A magnetic recording/reproducing device is provided with a magnetic head for writing data in a recording medium by a write current; and an operating unit having a program region for obtaining a value which indicates a signal quality of data read out from the recording medium, and a memory region for storing a first write current value, i.e. a prescribed optimum value, and a second write current whose value is lower than the first write current value. The magnetic head writes data in the recording medium based on the first and the second write current values set by the operating unit, and reads out the data written in the recording medium. The operating unit sets the first and the second write current values for the write current supplied through the magnetic head, obtains values indicating the first and the second signal qualities corresponding to the read out data by the magnetic head, compares the value indicating the first signal quality with the value indicating the second signal quality, and when the value indicating the first signal quality is lower than the value indicating the second signal quality, it is judged that there is no trouble in the magnetic head.</p> |
