<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method (initial setting wizard) capable of attaining initial settings in an interactive form wherein a user answers questions without the need for reading an instruction manuals. <P>SOLUTION: At first application of power, the initial setting method displays an inquiry whether or not the user executes the initial settings (menu display 1), when the user executes the initial settings, the method guides the user to enter information associated with a living place of the user (e.g. Kanto region) and the user to enter information associated with an installed location of a video recording apparatus (e.g. 23 wards in Tokyo) (menu displays 2 to 4). When the entries are finished, the method searches broadcast channels actually receptible by the video recording apparatus, the method displays the searching result (menu displays 5, 6).
