PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based ink composition that maintains a stable ink discharge amount even in long-distance writing, hardly relates to ink viscosity, hardly causes bad conditions such as blur, dribble, etc., and a ball-point pen containing the same. SOLUTION: The water-based ink composition comprises a polypeptide that has 500-15,000 average molecular weight and contains≥15 mol% glutamic acid in an amino acid composition, a colorant, a water-soluble organic solvent and water. The water-based ink composition comprises 0.5-10 wt.% of the polypeptide in the total of the ink composition. The ball-point pen contains the water-based ink composition. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
