PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator capable of separating contaminant even in a normal or reverse flow direction of fluid. SOLUTION: This separator separates contaminant mixed in fluid by forming cyclone, and has a roughly cylindrical shell 1 and multiple connection ports 2-5 provided on an outer peripheral face of the shell 1 and connected to the shell 1 inside. At least one of the connection ports 2-5 is switchable to both inlet and outlet ports, fluid flows in from outer end parts of the inlet connection ports 2, 4, is formed into a swirl flow, and is discharged from the outer end parts of the connection ports 3, 5, through inner end parts of the connection ports 2, 4; the inside of the shell 1 and the outside of an inner cylinder 6; a lower end part of the inner cylinder 6; the inside of the inner cylinder 6; and inner end parts of the outlet connection ports 3, 5.
