PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system immediately restarting photographing after a lens is exchanged during the photographing. SOLUTION: The camera system is provided with: an optical unit including a photographing optical system; and a camera main body to which the optical unit is removably loaded. The camera main body includes: a detection section for detecting the loading/unloading of the optical unit; a data processing section having a plurality of modes including a photographing mode wherein acquisition processing of image data is executed; a mode setting section for setting a present mode to a mode adaptive to camera operations; and a mode switching section that switches the selected mode into another mode than the photographing mode and reaches a standby state when the detection section detects the unloading of the optical unit in the setting state of the photographing mode, and switches the present mode into the photographing mode when the detection section detects the loading of the optical unit during the standby state.
