An image forming apparatus having an automatic power interrupting unit is provided to automatically interrupt power of the image forming apparatus when the image forming apparatus is abnormally operated. An image forming apparatus includes a frame, an image forming unit, a controller, a power switch, and an automatic power interrupting unit. The image forming unit is set in the frame. The controller determines whether the image forming unit is normally operated. The power switch turns on/off the power of the image forming unit and the power of the controller. The automatic power interrupting unit comes into contact with the power switch according to a command of the controller and turns off the power switch. The automatic power interrupting unit includes an elastic member(260), a slide part(210), and a driving unit(280). One end of the elastic member is fixed to the frame. The elastic member maintains a compressed state when the power switch is on. The slide part is connected to the other end of the elastic member and moved by the restoring force of the elastic member to come into contact with the power switch and turns off the power switch. The driving unit cancels the compressed state of the elastic member according to a command of the controller.
