The embroidery machine, to stitch patterns, has an embroidery frame to hold the fabric workpiece, with a drive to move the frame in the X- and/or Y-direction. A display shows the pattern on a screen, to be embroidered on the fabric. A detector registers the turning of the fabric in the embroidery frame, and a further detector registers a reference point on the fabric in the frame so that, through both detectors, corrections are generated to set the fabric rotation as required.
