<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a number recognition device and method for performing the highly precise classification processing of an image without requiring any huge calculation quantity just like algorithmic transformation. <P>SOLUTION: This number recognition device 1 is provided with a camera 2 for capturing an image including the number plate of other vehicles and a ternarization processing part 32 for ternarizing the captured image by comparing it with neighboring pixels by using a threshold, and configured to perform the arithmetic operation of the optimal prediction value of the threshold from the luminance average and luminance diffusion of the captured image, and to make the ternarization processing part 32 perform ternarization by using the prediction value of the threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
