PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous material with which a plant can be planted, and to provide a porous material for greening with which greening can be performed to the wall face or roof of a building by a simple construction operation with fine appearance without using soil for preventing a heat island phenomenon. SOLUTION: Using a porous material for greening produced by a method for producing a gelling agent-free porous material provided with: a stage where slurry containing a skeleton component not melted upon firing and a melting component melted upon firing is prepared; a stage where fiber and bubbles are mixed into the slurry; a forming stage; a drying stage; and a stage of performing firing at a firing temperature of 400 to 1,300°C, a plant is planted in the surface part of the porous material.
