PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a gas engine device keeping high energy efficiency and suppressing emission of methane, nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide. SOLUTION: In treating combustion exhaust gas generated by combustion of mixture gas containing fuel gas including methane and oxygen in the gas engine, by an exhaust emission control catalyst having iridium carried by fire resistant inorganic oxide containing zirconia as main component, a combustion condition is changed over between a lean combustion condition and a theoretical air fuel ratio condition by adjusting air fuel ratio of the mixture gas, and the combustion exhaust gas is treated by the exhaust emission control catalyst in both of the lean combustion condition and the theoretical air fuel ratio condition.
