PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device capable of reducing the cost of a mechanism for rotating a drive chassis with respect to a main chassis. SOLUTION: A follower gear 5 supported on a main chassis 1 is constituted of large and small gears 5A and 5B sequentially connected coaxially toward the rising direction of a drive chassis 2, a drive gear 4 supported on the drive chassis 2 is engaged with the large gear 5A, and the rack 3b of a column slider 3 is engaged with the small gear 5B. Then, a shield surface 5A is formed in the lower end of the tooth groove engaged by the drive gear in the most lowered state of at least the drive chassis 2 in the tooth groove of the large gear 5A to shield the tooth groove, and in the upper end surface of the large gear 5A, an arc-shaped projection 5Ad is formed to touch the end 3a of the column slider 3 having the rack 3B formed when the drive chassis 2 is elevated.
