A device for treating surfaces (F) of metal components has deflection optics for deflecting a laser beam (L) from a longitudinal direction to the surface being treated from a direction longitudinal to the treated surface into a direction deviating from this direction to the surface being treated (F). In front of the deflection optics (14) is positioned a light transparent deflection unit with mutually plane parallel entrance surfaces for the laser beam (L) arranged mutually plane parallel and oblique to the direction with which the laser beam (L) strikes the deflection unit. An independent claim is included for a method for treating surfaces of metal components, especially tracks of cylinder ports of combustion engine blocks.
