An image forming apparatus for preventing current leakage generated when paper resistance is measured and a current leakage preventing method therefor are provided to accurately calculate resistance values of printing papers to increase printing quality, and prevent a current for measuring the paper resistance from being leaked through an organic photo conductive unit to supply the optimum transferring voltage to a transferring roller. The first to the fourth organic photo conductive units(112,114,116,118) transfer a toner to certain printing papers. When a current which flows through the printing papers is measured, a switching unit(150) opens the first to the fourth organic photo conductive units(112,114,116,118) from ground. The printing papers are put into a paper resistance measuring roller(110). A paper sensing unit senses whether the printing papers are put into. If it is sensed that the printing papers are put into through the paper sensing unit, a control unit controls the switching unit(150) to turn off the switching unit(150). When the current measurement is ended, the control unit controls the switching unit(150) to turn on the switching unit(150).
