<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission system capable of extending transmission distance by reducing the influence of mode distribution noise, and to provide a light source for the optical transmission system at low costs. <P>SOLUTION: The diameter of a luminous surface in a face light-emitting laser (VCSEL) is set to approximately 10μm for operation in a single mode. The output light is transmitted via an optical fiber F in the single mode, thus reducing the mode distribution noise, minimizing deterioration in a transmission waveform, and hence extending the transmission distance and reducing the costs of a system by utilizing the advantage of the costs in the face light-emitting laser. Additionally, a wavelength of at least 3 is used in a short waveband of 600nm or higher and 1μm or smaller, and each wavelength light is modulated at the modulation speed of 1-13GHz, thus constructing a wavelength division multiplex optical transmission system capable of coping with the Ethernet (R) having a transmission speed of 1-10Gbps. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
