<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus wherein each of a plurality of modules for autonomously performing peculiar operations assigned so as to perform image formation in cooperation with one another can autonomously perform a prescribed operation copying with operation abnormality of a module in the case of the occurrence of the operation abnormality in any module. <P>SOLUTION: When detecting a module where operation abnormality has occurred, from operation state information stored in a shared data module 10, of a plurality of modules 5 to 9 for autonomously performing peculiar operations assigned so as to perform image formation in cooperation with one another, the modules 5 to 9 perform operations (prescribed operations) coping with the operation abnormality in accordance with a source module of the operation abnormality and contents of the operation abnormality.
