<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser scanning apparatus capable of maintaining detection accuracy while securing safety in such a way as not to irradiate human eyes. <P>SOLUTION: A camera 3 photographs forward areas of an automobile 1 to analyze images captured by the camera 3. In the case that previously specified human faces and eyes are recognized in the images, coordinate transformation is performed on the range of irradiation of a laser radar 2. When the laser radar 2 irradiates a laser beam to the vicinity of locations at which the human faces and eyes are present within the range of irradiation, the laser radar 2 is set in such a way as to lower its irradiation output more than in normal times or halt it. Since scanning is performed without irradiating a laser beam to human eyes and with normal output of laser irradiation to other ranges, it is possible to maintain detection accuracy while securing safety. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
