PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving picture searching and editing apparatus, capable of searching for an image without performing a fast-forward reproduction or the like, simply designating the edit-start point and the edit-end point, and reducing an edit cost of a compressed data. SOLUTION: First an edit control menu is displayed; in searching and editing file processing 12 a file to be searched and edited is selected. In moving image searching processing 13 image searching is implemented for the image of the selected file in the macroscopic and microscopic unit to display the image to be searched and edited. In edit section designation processing 14, the start point and the end point of a section to be edited are designated from the image displayed by the moving image searching processing, wherein editing of a plurality of sections or other files is performed by a processing similar to that of the above, if necessary. In edit section reproduction processing 17 reproducing the edited section is reproduced to confirm the edited part, when all the edited sections are fixed.
